Lab Operations Assistant

Description We are seeking undergraduate students or non-students to assist in basic lab operations for approximately 10-20 hours per week. Lab Assistants are expected to solely perform, supervise, and/or assist in tasks necessary to the productivity of lab operations. This includes (but is not limited to): – Washing/sterilizing dishes and equipment (glassware, pipettes, counter tops, etc) – Organizing and maintaining the cleanliness of lab spaces – Packing and sterilizing pipette tips – Formulating and sterilizing media – Formulating and maintaining common stock reagents (TBE, Artificial Sea Water, etc) – Maintaining anaerobic chambers – Assisting in scientific experiments as needed Expectations Lab Operations Assistants are expected to set their own schedule and hold themselves accountable. As such, a successful Lab Assistant will be self-motivated and require limited supervision. Lab Assistants will identify the needs of the lab through visual inspection, routine scheduling, or communicating with team members on a day-to-day basis and complete tasks in a timely manner as to ensure the productivity of research efforts. Assistants are required to adhere to hazardous waste, radiation, and standardized safety protocols including dress codes, keeping doors locked, proper waste disposal, no food/drink in lab, etc. |
Desired qualifications: – Entry level; No experience necessary – Punctual, reliable, self-motivated are required – Interest in Biology is a plus – Lab experience/course work is a plus – Arithmetic/”Lab Math” is highly desired – Working knowledge of measurement instruments (scales, graduated cylinders, pipettes, etc) is highly desired Compensation Based on experience and qualifications Work-study eligible |
